Year 11 Visual Arts students are invited to join acclaimed Australian artist Tom Polo for an ‘expanded portrait’ Masterclass at Ngununggula. Creative Kids vouchers are accepted for this class!
Tom will both guide and challenge students through a series of workshops designed to develop and expand the participants skill set and understanding of portraiture. This workshop is specifically created for Year 11 students of elective Visual Arts to build skill prior to embarking on their HSC Body of Work in Term 4. Students will produce a suite of artworks and gain artistic confidence through activities and techniques that foster creative play and experimentation.
The Masterclass will also include a tour of the Tour of Belonging|Tjoritjarinja exhibition by Ngununggula's Creative Learning Manager. Workshop materials will be provided. Just bring yourself and a positive attitude!

Tom Polo (b. 1985, Sydney, Australia) creates painting and painted environments to explore how conversation, gesture and exchange are embodied acts of portraiture. Incorporating text and figurative elements, his works draw upon acute observations, absurdist encounters, personal histories and imagined personas. The emotional and performative relationships between people within social, theatrical and psychological space is an ongoing conceptual realm for his practice. Recording and amassing these acute observations, Polo has built a significant index of vignettes that are recalled then assembled into richly hued paintings and installations that are familiar, poetic and stirring.
